God says: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give your descendants land; they will be like dust and all of these peoples of the earth will be blessed through them”
God does this whilst Jacob is fast asleep. Jacob says: This place; here where God condescends and covenants with me whilst I was sleeping, this is the gate of heaven!
Jacob responds by saying that if God fulfills all that He has promised he will faithfully worship Him.
In Christ God did fulfill what he unilaterally promised Jacob while he was sleeping! You and I look back at God having already done this for us in Christ. We can only worship!
